Deputies from the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Talladega man Monday evening after he fired his rifle at a log skidder. According to Investigator Brett Miller, George Morris Jr., 85, was charged with firing into an occupied vehicle.

Miller said a logging crew was working at a property adjacent to Morris’s near Joe Campbell Road and Stewart Lane. The individual driving the log skidder inadvertently backed the skidder onto Morris’s property, prompting Morris to fire his SKS rifle at the log skidder’s tire.

Morris was transported to the Talladega County Jail. District Judge Jeb Fannin set Morris’s bond at $10,000 for the offense.

Firing into an occupied vehicle is a Class B felony in Alabama, carrying a possible sentence of two to 20 years upon conviction.
