Kenneth Hodges, owner of H & M Logging, and his son, Kevin, who owns Ke’Jaeh Logging, reported to Halifax County Industrial Development Authority board members Friday morning the logging industry is alive and well here.

During the board’s regular monthly meeting Friday, the premiere business owners outlined the history of their businesses and changes they have seen in the wood products industry over the past decades.

Wood products is one of five targeted sectors the industrial development authority tries to market in Halifax County.

For the past 30 years, Kenneth has worked in the logging industry starting out with five employees and building up to the current 65 employees the Sinai company now has on its payroll.

H & M Logging is one of the top five largest logging operations in the southeast, according to Kenneth. “When I first started out, a lot of people said the logging business would never get as great as it has. I said I’ll take my chances and try to make a big logging business here. I worked hard, and I’ve been doing it for 30 years.”
