Maple Land and Timber is planning a $1.95 million expansion of its operation in Baldwyn, Miss.

The project, which will take place at American Land and Timber, will include construction of a sawmill and 20,000-square-foot production facility. It will create 38 new jobs in the area. Currently, the plant has 12 employees.

The expansion will allow Maple Land and Timber to produce lumber for export to overseas markets. The company produces hardwood and pine lumber for pallet materials and crossties domestically and overseas. The company has operated in Prentiss County since 1984.

“This has been an excellent year for economic development in Mississippi, and this expansion is proof that our economy is getting stronger and that great things are taking place in our state,” Phil Bryant, governor of Mississippi, said in a statement. “I wish the company many more years of success in Prentiss County.”

The state of Mississippi will provide tax incentives and infrastructure improvements for the project.
