Carter Lumber is building a new manufacturing facility in Lexington. The Ohio-based company, which has a lumber yard in Welcome, is opening the facility on Old Hargrave Road to expand its presence in the Southeast.

Mark Ely, director of marketing for Carter Lumber, said after adding other new locations over the last year, the Lexington facility is being built to provide support to the growing customer base.

“Last year we put a new location in Charlotte, in addition to the locations we had in Welcome and Greensboro,” Ely said. “We also changed management and brought some new people on board. Since that time that area has started taking off and expanding to the point we needed another facility to support those locations.”

In addition to being a delivery hub for framing components, the facility will produce trusses, wall panels, engineered wood products and millwork on-site for builders. Ely said the company will begin using the location as a lumber delivery overflow site Oct. 1 and will start producing the first components by March 1.

Brandon Kujawski, Charlotte Market general manager, will head this new Lexington location. The company now has five locations servicing the Charlotte and Triad areas. Carter Lumber will also open a new location in Powder Springs, Georgia.
