The Florida Forest Service has invited area teachers to take part of the Florida Forestry Teachers’ Tour on June 23-26, according to a news release.

The event, held at Fernandina Beach, will bring 45 teachers from across the state to learn how forestry works in Florida.

“This four-day event demonstrates to educators that sustainability is the key to responsible forestry,” said State Forester Jim Karels. “Teachers will witness first-hand the remarkable ways in which the forestry industry maximizes the effective and efficient use of Florida’s natural resources.”

Participating teachers will experience all aspects of forestry practices, from the planting and growing processes to the mills and final products. They will also learn about environmental issues and how foresters work to meet the needs of Florida’s communities and the environment. Teachers will receive 30 Continuing Education Units. All lodging, meals and tour transportation are provided.

Applications will be accepted through March 9. To submit an application, visit www.floridastateforests.org/teacherstour.
