La Tech Forestry Student Receives NAWT Scholarship
Aurora McCain, a student in the School of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry at Louisiana Tech University, received the 2026 National Assn. of Women in Timber (NAWT) Scholarship on June 5 during the 7th Annual NAWT Conference in Georgetown, SC.
McCain is majoring in Forestry with concentrations in Forest Management and Wildlife Habitat Management. Her academic and professional interests include forest policy, genetic research, and the role timber investment plays in supporting sustainability and strengthening economies.
“Receiving the National Association of Women in Timber Scholarship is an incredible honor,” McCain said. “I’m grateful to be supported by an incredible organization that is committed to empowering women in the forestry industry. This scholarship deepens my passion for forestry and encourages me to continue pursuing opportunities in leadership, research, and sustainable forest management, so I can help shape a more inclusive and sustainable future for generations to come.”
McCain is actively involved in forestry leadership and professional organizations across campus and the industry. She serves as an officer and the newly elected president of WOLFS, Women of Louisiana Forestry and Supporters, where she helps coordinate the annual Women in the Woods program and encourages young women to pursue careers in forestry. She is also a member of the Society of American Foresters and The Wildlife Society.
The National Assn. of Women in Timber awards the annual scholarship to a woman pursuing a degree in forestry or a related field. The organization supports the next generation of women leaders who are advancing sustainable forestry practices and strengthening the future of the timber industry.
