There is now an effort to replant the thousands of trees damaged or destroyed during the tornado outbreak that ravaged parts of Alabama on April 27 of this year.

The project, called the Alabama Tree Recovery Campaign, was launched in response to proactive efforts of the Alabama Forestry Commission to spearhead recovery of the devastated area’s trees and forests. The Arbor Day Foundation, in collaboration with the Alabama Forestry Commission, is sponsoring the campaign.

The delivery and distribution of native trees, selected to thrive in the area at the best time for planting, is scheduled for February 2012.

While the cleanup and rebuilding will continue for years to come, you can help now by making an online donation at www.arborday.org/Tuscaloosa. The Arbor Day Foundation will provide one tree for every dollar donated.
