While most of the wildfire focus in Texas has been in the western part of the state, it has been “burning border to border” this year, according to a Texas Forest Service spokesperson. To date, 248 of the state’s 254 counties are under a burn ban.

“I’ve never seen as many burn bans in my 32 years at the forestry service,” commented Mark Sanford, the Associated Director for forest resource protection.

Holly Huffman, a communications specialist with the forest service, concernedly observes, “No part of the state has been left untouched.”
